Dimethyl Carbonate
Abbreviation: DMC
CAS No.: 616-38-6
Properties: Colorless and transparent liquid, a low-toxicity, environmentally friendly,
and widely used chemical raw material. It has a pungent odor, is insoluble in water,
but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.
Product Types: Industrial-grade dimethyl carbonate is available in electronic grade
and premium grade.

Applications:
● Additives for gasoline and machine lubricants: DMC is characterized by high oxygen content, low toxicity, and rapid biodegradability. It can reduce the total emissions of
hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and group A in automobile exhaust, overcoming the disadvantages of commonly used gasoline additives that are easily soluble in water
and pollute groundwater sources. It is one of the most promising gasoline additives to replace MTBE.
● Paint, coating, and adhesive industries: Due to its excellent solubility, narrow melting and boiling point range, high surface tension, low viscosity, low dielectric constant,
high evaporation temperature, and fast evaporation rate, DMC can replace toxic toluene and xylene products and is widely used in paint, coating, and adhesive industries.
● Pharmaceutical industry: Primarily used as a methylating agent to replace highly toxic dimethyl sulfate in the synthesis of anti-infective drugs, antipyretic analgesics,
vitamins, and central nervous system drugs.
● Polycarbonate: In recent years, with the rapid development of the domestic DMC industry, DMC has gradually replaced phosgene in the production of polycarbonate
and isocyanates.
● Used as a solvent in resin and polymer processing.
● Used as a raw material for synthetic pesticides.
